Film Night – Syriana
The club will be hosting a monthly movie night with club librarian and film programmer James Neil introducing the screening.
This month’s movie is political thriller ‘Syriana’ starring George Clooney, Matt Damon, Christopher Plummer and William Hurt.

CIA veteran Bob Barnes (Clooney) has had a distinguished career as a field agent and is due to retire when he discovers he’s being used by the agency as a pawn in dealings between powerful states, large oil companies, arms traffickers and key players for control over vital supplies and geographical influence. With a commanding performance by Clooney (who won the Oscar for best supporting actor in 2006 for this role) and a starry ensemble cast, Syriana is a riveting film with multiple parallel storylines made in the tradition of the finest Le Carré spy movies.
With compelling direction by Stephen Gaghan (Traffic) and based on real-life CIA agent Robert Baer’s book See no evil, the film offers viewers an exciting and richly rewarding experience of contemporary history.
The evening begins at 6.30pm and tickets include a two-course supper and half bottle of wine.
