History and Military History Section Talk – John Zimnoch

Hard labour in a gulag: John Zimnoch is giving a talk on his father’s experiences, mirrored by those of other Poles, at the hands of the Soviets
John Zimnoch’s father was a member of the Polish Air force and found himself in an NKVD Gulag near Archangel. John still has the NKVD discharge forms given to his father and will be speaking to us about his father’s experience and that of so many other Poles at the hands of the Russians. As John puts it ‘Adolf Hitler extended my father’s life, Joe Stalin shortened it’. Unsurprisingly when talking about family history and the effects of war and incarceration this promises to be a forthright talk.
The event will start at 7pm and is priced at £22pp and includes wine, sandwiches, and the chance to get to know fellow section members. Dress code for the evening is Lounge suits and members may bring a guest.
