Horse Racing Section – Goodwood Races

A day at the races

Saturday 3rd May 2025

Open to all section members and their guests, this Spring Bank Holiday weekend, the section are looking to organise a coach trip to Goodwood Races and the first event in their calendar.   For those who have not been, the current Earl of March has made a splendid success of the estate both for horse and motor racing.  It is a bit out of the way for public transport which is why we are arranging a coach.

The day will start with a pick up from the Club about 9:30 in a VIP coach with tables.   Arriving at the course we will have access to the Sussex Lounge Club.  There will be an Italian buffet lunch included in the package and a private pay bar.  It is based in the Gordon enclosure and we will have grandstand seats as well as access to the parade ring.  The bars on the East Lawn will have live music and dancing to add to the party atmosphere!

The last race is at 5pm so we will aim to leave at 5:30pm.  Depending on demand and timing we may have a pit stop at a countryside hostelry on the way back to the Club.

Although there is no formal dress code in the Gordon enclosure guests are encouraged to dress for a Summer Garden Party.  Linen Jackets and Panama hats are mentioned…

We are aiming to keep costs to £100 per head.   For the event to work we will need early interest to arrange the appropriate travel and prepay the racecourse tickets.   Section members have expressed interest in this type of event and, if successful, we can target other racecourses (such as Epsom).  We are aiming at events which are more difficult to get to from London without an overnight stay or a “duty driver”.
