 L\nIn June 2023\, Garrison Sergeant Major Stokes was awarded the honour of
  Officer of The British Empire (OBE) for his key role in creating and deli
 vering the State military ceremonial aspects of H.M. Queen Elizabeth's Fun
 eral and The Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Cami
 lla.\nHe began life in the British Army in June 1988 aged just 16yrs old. 
 After basic infantry training at the Guards Depot in Pirbright\, Surrey he
  joined the 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards in Episkopi Garrison\, Cyprus.
  When the Battalion returned to the United Kingdom in 1990 they were poste
 d to Chelsea Barracks\, London where he got his first taste of State Cerem
 onial and Public Duties (SCPD) at the Royal Palaces. After a series of tou
 rs in Bosnia\, Northern Ireland\, Iraq and Afghanistan he then took on var
 ious roles at Sandhurst before joining the team in Horse Guards in 2014 to
  begin a year of shadowing the previous Garrison Sergeant Major before tak
