We are delighted to welcome back to the club top UK musicians, Alex Garnett (alto sax) and Mark Armstrong (trumpet), who will recreate for us the innovative bebop style of jazz pioneered by

Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie

Bebop was certainly controversial at the time and was not always popular with those who were used to the swing style of jazz. Moving on from the traditional 7 note diatonic scale and using all 12 notes of the chromatic scale, bebop opened up new horizons for talented soloists and allowed much greater variety in the underlying harmonic chord progressions of jazz music.

Our guest stars, Alex and Mark, are two of the best current exponents of bebop and can be guaranteed to entertain and educate us with their virtuosity, knowledge and wit. This is an evening not to be missed.
