Library Lecture & Dinner with Sir Max Hastings

The Library committee is pleased to welcome Sir Max Hastings, to discuss his latest book

Sword

Max Hastings explores with extraordinary vividness the actions of the Commando brigade and Montgomery’s 3rd Infantry and 6th Airborne divisions on and around a single beach. He describes their frustrations, hopes, loves and fears through the apparently interminable years training and preparing in England, then their triumphs and tragedies on the beach and beyond.

Author of over thirty books—many on 20th-century wars including All Hell Let Loose, Catastrophe, Vietnam, and Abyss—Max Hastings  has reported on eleven conflicts, including Vietnam and the Falklands, as a BBC and newspaper correspondent. A former editor-in-chief of The Daily Telegraph, he has won numerous awards, and currently reviews for The Sunday Times and writes a column for Bloomberg.
