The Black Mountain Range- Hillwalking & Mountaineering
The next meet for the section will take place in the Black Mountain range in south Wales on Sunday 1 August.
The hike is a 12-mile circular walk which takes in the magnificent ridge line of Fan Hir. There are several peaks and high points on this walk, and along the way we will learn how the likes of a WWII Wellington bomber and a de Havilland Vampire from the 1950s came to rest on the desolate moorland.
From the car park we ascend open moorland to the Fan Hir mountain ridge. Our first peak is Fan Brycheneiniog (802m) followed quickly by Fan Foel (781m), then Pics Du (749m).
Distance/Time
Circa 12 miles. Walking on rough open moorland and some paths. Paths/moorland could be muddy/boggy, – walking poles and gators could be useful! Approx. Six/seven hours to end including lunch break.
